Job summary

Sunrock in North Carolina seeks a Grading Foreman to supervise a crew on grading projects, plan and schedule work, and review tasks for quality and safety on site.

You will lead by example, enforce safety standards, and coordinate with subcontractors when needed. The role may involve weekend work and up to 10% overnight travel in support of contract requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate grading crews and subcontractors per plans and schedules.
  • Enforce safety policies and lead by example on site.
  • Prepare and review task plans, progress and timesheets; ensure timely reporting.
  • Plan, schedule and monitor projects to meet deadlines and quality standards.
  • Attend meetings and perform additional duties as assigned.

Job description

The Grading Foreman supervises and works alongside a crew of employees and occasionally subcontractors when needed to assist in the installation and construction grading projects. The incumbent will supervise work through the planning and scheduling of work and the review and approval of tasks. The individual will practice absolute confidentiality. Good judgment and common sense are required in all duties and any other tasks as assigned. Normal work hours are the day or night shift eight (8) to fourteen (14) hours Monday through Friday. There may be weekend work depending on the contract. Minimal overnight travel up to 10 as required. This job description provides an overview of responsibilities and tasks to be performed. It is not intended to be an all-inclusive job description as needs tend to change over time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Complies with all safety policies, procedures, and established safe practices and ensures that all employees reporting to you do the same.
  • Reports all unsafe conditions and actions to a supervisor and or the Manager.
  • Freedom & HealthTrains develops and monitors the safety practices including PPE of own employees through regularly scheduled safety meetings, one-on-one development reminders and disciplinary action if necessary.
  • Follows all requirements listed in the Supervisor Safety Procedure Manual (SSPM) including but not limited to safety training, emergency procedures, accident reporting and investigation and employee observations.
  • Ensures compliance of production staff with all policies and procedures OSHA MSHA and NCDOT guidelines.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area and meets other housekeeping needs as required by Sunrock MSHA 30 CFR 5620003 and OSHA 29 CFR 191022 and ensures that all employees reporting to you do the same.
  • Reads and follows plans, material lists and guidelines and applies necessary timelines.
  • Fulfills all regular and advanced installation/construction duties including project layout and completes required paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Organizes, supervises, leads and trains employees to complete projects within established guidelines and timeframe.
  • Submits crewmembers timesheets to payroll by required deadline.
  • Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Provides leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge skill.
  • Enforces all client required safety policies and procedures.
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures and safety requirements including crewmember discipline and documentation.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and employees.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Basic personal computer skills.
  • Prioritizes tasks.
  • Handles multiple tasks simultaneously.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree, GED preferred.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of related experience required.

Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • OSHA 10 hour preferred.
  • Storm water Supervisor Level II Certification Preferred.
  • Lane Closure Certification Preferred.
  • Trenching safety and confined space certification preferred.
  • Current North Carolina Drivers License.
