Job description

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

1. Supervise and coordinate activities of workers.
2. Oversee progress and efficient utilization of paving crew and equipment.
3. Establish and maintain a working relationship with fellow Foremen and Superintendents.
4. Oversee proper equipment maintenance and report repairs to the general superintendent and mechanic shop.
5. Monitor the layout, placement, and compaction of materials.
6. Monitor quality control.
7. Verify measurements, slope, and thickness for compliance.
8. Communicate professionally with external parties, including customers and the public.
9. Read and relay job-related information from work orders, plans, or contracts to the asphalt crew.
10. Operate paving equipment and facilitate machinery alignment and adjustments.
11. Calculate and order job materials accurately.
12. Maintain timely and regular attendance.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

1. Act courteously and respectfully, maintaining positive customer relations.
2. Work independently.
3. Work in all weather conditions, including nights and weekends as needed.
4. Have knowledge of asphalt paving construction, materials, repairs, and maintenance procedures.
5. Understand safety standards, regulations, and best practices in construction.
6. Operate heavy highway construction and maintenance equipment.
7. Read and interpret maps, engineering drawings, and blueprints related to road and bridge work.

Minimum Qualifications

1. At least five years of proven foreman experience leading a crew.
2. Strong supervisory, communication (verbal and written), and basic computer skills.
3. Valid driver’s license.
4. Understanding of Paving Grade control and basic paving and traffic control specifications.
5. Ability to work both day and night shifts as needed.
6. Pass pre-employment drug screening.
