Job Summary: An Asphalt Paving Machine Operator is a skilled craft position responsible for operating asphalt paver machines. This includes manipulating hand or foot levers to control the paving machine, which spreads and levels asphalt on surfaces such as highways, parking lots, and streets. The operator will perform routine maintenance, such as oiling, greasing, and making operational adjustments. Additional duties may include installing or removing screed extensions, automatic devices, and grade logs.

Essential Functions, Skills, and Abilities

• Understand and execute paving procedures following project standards.
• Follow safe operation practices for paver machines.
• Set screed sensors and determine correct material placement.
• Perform daily maintenance, including lubrication and fluid level checks.
• Maintain equipment in proper and safe working order and notify supervisors of repairs.
• Conduct safety inspections for leaks and damages before operation.
• Meet and plan grade cross slope requirements and understand screed head of material.
• Set flow and operate equipment to maintain straight lines and proper paving speed.
• Adjust screed crown and strike off, and set up automatic grade and slope controls.
• Understand paving methods to prevent segregation and have general knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems.
• Work safely in a team environment and perform incidental duties as needed.

Working Conditions
