Job summary

Houston Grand Opera Association Inc. seeks a seasoned Costume Patternmaker to join the Costume Shop in Houston, TX. You will create patterns, assist with builds, alterations, and fittings for performances, collaborating with designers and supervisors to meet production timelines.

The role requires 5+ years in patterning, draping, and sewing within a costume or fashion setting, with ability to operate industrial sewing machines, lift up to 30 lbs, and stand long hours. Overtime may be required.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of professional patterning/draping/tailoring experience in a costume shop or fashion industry.
  • At least 5 years of professional cutting and sewing experience in a costume shop or fashion industry.
  • Ability to accurately create patterns according to specifications at a moderate pace.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Costume Shop Supervisor, Head of Costumes, and Designers to create patterns accurately for all builds.
  • Assist with all aspects involved with building and prepping alterations of costumes.
  • Take accurate measurements of all performers.
  • Evaluate/measure rental costumes and determine course of action.
  • Calculate materials needed for builds/alterations and for stock.
  • Assist on department projects as needed.
