Job summary

Houston Grand Opera seeks an experienced costume pattern maker to create patterns for all costume builds, work with the design team, and assist with alterations and stock preparation. You will take precise measurements, handle fittings, and ensure accurate materials planning for productions.

Requirements include 5+ years in patterning/draping/tailoring within a costume shop or fashion industry, plus sewing proficiency on industrial machines. Physical stamina and lifting ability are needed.

Qualifications

• Create patterns accurately for costume builds according to specifications.
• Cut, sew and alter costumes using professional methods and equipment.
• Take precise measurements and work under fittings/rehearsal schedules.
• Lift up to 30 lbs and stand for extended periods as needed.

Responsibilities

• Work with the Costume Shop Supervisor, Head of Costumes and Designers to create patterns for all builds.
• Assist with alterations and prep work for costume construction and stock prep.
• Take accurate performer measurements for fittings.
• Evaluate rental costumes and determine material needs for builds/alterations.
• Assist on department projects as needed.
