Job summary

County of Mendocino seeks a Deputy Sheriff-Coroner to perform patrol and investigative work in the Sheriff’s Office. Primary duties include enforcing laws, writing reports, responding to incidents, and conducting investigations with attention to evidence and court testimony.

Prerequisites include POST certification or recertification within 18 months, 21+ age, high school diploma or GED, and a valid California driver’s license with CPR certification.

Qualifications

• Pursuant to Government Code, Section 1031, must be at least 21 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED.
• Possession of a valid and current POST Basic Academy certificate or successful completion of a POST re-qualification within last 18 months.
• Valid Driver's license - Class C or better and CPR certification.
• Incumbents must maintain required licenses/certifications as conditions of employment.

Responsibilities

• Patrols an assigned area and enforces laws and regulations.
• Responds to radio messages and citizen requests at scenes of disorder or crime.
• Conducts investigations of major crimes and preserves evidence; interviews victims, witnesses, suspects; makes arrests and prepares reports.
• Maintains courtroom demeanor and controls evidence and exhibits; assists with jury matters during recesses and deliberations.
• Prepares and serves warrants, subpoenas and other judicial processes.
