Qualifications

• Must pass an extensive background investigation.
• Preference for current Peace Officer certification or prior law enforcement experience.
• Must obtain basic Peace Officer certification from Idaho POST within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Patrol roadways to observe traffic violations and ordinances, issue violations and make arrests.
• Serve civil papers and warrants.
• Respond to citizen complaints (burglary, robbery, domestic disputes, etc.).
• Appear in court as a witness and handle property for court proceedings.
• Operate vehicles under emergency and non-emergency conditions.
• Detect and apprehend DUI subjects.
• Conduct searches of vehicles, buildings and persons; employ high-risk tactics as needed.
• Display and discharge firearms; restrain high-risk subjects.
• Assess welfare concerns for children; process custody issues.
• Perform drug interdictions, conduct bar checks and operate firefighting equipment.
• Respond to crimes in progress; provide emergency first aid and move disabled persons safely.
• Coordinate search and rescue operations; initiate incident command; coordinate with other agencies.
• Implement crowd control and establish probable cause for warrants.
• Locate persons named in warrants and assist stranded motorists.
• Perform duties with Kootenai Tribe, U.S. Forest Service and other contractors as required.
• Follow all laws and Boundary County policies and procedures.
