Job summary

Christus Health in Santa Fe, NM is seeking a dedicated Patient Transporter to move inpatients and outpatients safely within the hospital, assist care staff, and support patient flow.

Qualifications

• Operate transport equipment according to hospital and manufacturer instructions.
• Coordinate with dispatch to meet patient care needs and prioritize scarce resources.

Job description

Summary

Transports inpatients and outpatients to and from their destinations safely within the hospital. Assists patients and patient care staff.

Responsibilities

• Assists departments in preparing patients for transport; transporting patients to various departments in the hospital in a safe and timely manner.
• Provides maintenance level patient care as training allows while transporting patient to destination.
• Assists patient care staff in transferring and positioning patients for procedures and treatments.
• Assists patient care and ancillary departments in keeping the environment and associated equipment clean and ready for use per department-specific protocols.
• Operates equipment in accordance with hospital and manufacturer's instructions.
• Transports patients by bed, stretcher or wheelchair to and from their destinations, observing safety precautions. Provides 'lift assist" to all departments when requested in bed watch. Uses lifting equipment for any patients that require 2 or more people to transfer/lift.
• Correctly and appropriately uses infection control devices, including clothing and equipment, at all times to protect self, patient and other staff.
• Works with dispatch and/or any other requesting department to promptly meet patient care needs, to include prioritizing use of scarce resources when necessary.
• Picks up and delivers documents, medical supplies and equipment throughout facility.
• Demonstrates a cooperative, respectful and helpful manner to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers.

Requirements

Education

• High School or equivalent required.

Experience

• Prior related work experience in medical environment preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) issued through American Heart Association required, or must be attained within two weeks of employment.

• Ability to retain composure under stress, to move quickly but effectively to meet patient care needs
