Job summary

GBMC HealthCare is seeking a dedicated transporter to move patients, specimens, and supplies across the Medical Center. This role requires handling patients of varying mobility, maintaining patient dignity, and supporting nursing units with equipment inventory. CPR certification is required within 30 days.

The transporter must demonstrate physical capability to lift and maneuver heavy loads, work as part of a team, and comply with hospital standards of safety and service excellence.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Heart Saver (CPR) certification within 30 days of start date.
• Ability to transport and transfer patients including morgue patients.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Manual dexterity for handling patients and equipment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to lift patients up to 250 lbs. with assistance.

Responsibilities

• Transports patients, specimens, equipment and supplies throughout the Medical Center using stretchers, wheelchairs, beds and other transport equipment.
• Initiates wheelchair, stretcher and bed inventory to ensure adequate par level allocation for nursing units and departments.
• Maintains cleanliness of stretchers and related transport equipment.
• Transports and locates equipment, specimens and supplies to/from designated areas.
• Ensures patient dignity and privacy during transport by draping appropriately.

Under direct supervision, transports patients, specimens, equipment, and supplies throughout the Medical Center in a safe, timely, efficient and courteous manner. Initiates wheelchair, stretcher and bed inventory control to assure adequate par level allocation of this equipment for nursing units and departments.Education:High School, GED equivalency, or equivalent work experience.Licensures/Certifications:Heart Saver (CPR Certification) within 30 days of start dateExperience:Not ApplicableSkills:• Skill in oral and written communication.• Ability to transport and transfer patients including morgue patients.• Ability to work well under time constraints and to work effectively as a team member.• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.• Manual dexterity required for handling patients, equipment and supplies.• Ability to push, pull, tug or lift to 50 pounds.• Ability to lift patients and carry items, supplies and equipment.• Ability to stand, bend, walk and push for extended periods of time.• Ability to transport patients, up to 250 lbs., unaided. For patients over 250 lbs., assistance is available to assigned transporter.Principal Duties and Responsibilities:• Transports patients, specimens, equipment and supplies throughout the Medical Center, utilizing stretchers, wheelchairs, beds, cardiac chairs and other transport equipment.• Assists in lifting or placing patients onto and out of the transport conveyance, securing patient onto equipment, ensuring patient has identification band, and checking same to ensure correct patient is being transported.
