Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is seeking a dedicated Patient Transporter for full-time night shifts (11:00PM–7:00AM), Monday through Friday with alternating weekends. The role transports patients within the facility, assists with discharge, and performs cleaning tasks to maintain sanitary conditions in patient areas.

Responsibilities include using Teletracking, documenting transport details, applying AIDET with patients, and upholding safety and oxygen-handling procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to read and write English for verifying assignments and reading labels when preparing cleaning solutions.
• One year on-the-job experience preferred to learn sanitation principles and hospital policies.
• Interpersonal skills necessary to be courteous to patients, visitors and staff.

• Explain transport method and destination using AIDET.
• Demonstrate safety precautions involving patient transport.

• Clean vacated patient areas and ensure linens are neat and clean.
• Ensure proper storage and handling of oxygen when transporting patients.
• Promote hospital service standards and a positive patient experience.
• Meet productivity standards in daily tasks.

Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Patient Transporter - Full Time, Nights - Environmental Srvcs-Transport - 11:00PM - 7:00AM Monday - Friday with Alternating Weekends.

In this role, the successful candidate Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures performs the following, transports patients to and from various locations within the facility and discharges patient to main lobby areas and decedents to the morgue. Performs assigned cleaning tasks in maintaining Hospital areas in an orderly and sanitary condition. In doing so, moves equipment and supplies in assigned area and performs a variety of housekeeping duties.

• Receive Assignments and job requirements
• Pick up patient chart and inform Nursing of transport.
• Complete Transport Communication Sheet.
• Utilize AIDET Introduce self to patient and explain method of transport and destination.
• Is knowledgeable and can demonstrate safety precautions involving patient transport.
• Upon arrival to destination, report patients’ arrival, deliver patient chart to appropriate personnel and obtain required signatures.
• Cleaning Procedure in vacated patient area including bed sanitizing ensuring linen is clean, neat and in excellent condition.
• Visually inspects area upon completion of cleaning to ensure appropriate levels of cleaning and neatness have been achieved.
• Familiar with possible hazards associated with using oxygen.
• Ensures that oxygen label is correctly displayed and designated medical 02.
• Ensures proper connection prior to initiating the patient transport.
• Familiar with the proper storage of oxygen tanks.
• Uses proper 02 holders when transporting a patient.
• Utilizes AIDET with each patient, visitor and staff encounter.
• Promotes and projects the hospitals service standards in their daily job tasks.
• Promotes a positive patient experience during all patient encounters.
• Demonstrate competencies related to the 7 step room cleaning procedure.
• Provides consistent work performance and meets productivity standards

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify you must have a High school diploma or equivalency required.

Ability to read and write English in order to verify correct patients assignments and read and interpret labels when preparing cleaning solutions.

Preferred one year on the job experience necessary to learn sanitation principles and techniques, Hospital layout and departmental/Hospital policies and procedures.

Interpersonal skills necessary to be courteous to patients, visitors and staff when performing transporting and housekeeping assignments.
