Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Transporter - Full Time, Evenings (3PM - 11PM, Alternating Days).

In this role, under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, the transporter moves patients to and from various locations within the facility, discharges patients to main lobby areas, and handles decedents to the morgue. The role also includes cleaning tasks to maintain hospital areas in an orderly and sanitary condition, moving equipment and supplies, and performing housekeeping duties.

Job Responsibilities

• Receive assignments and job requirements
• Pick up patient chart and inform Nursing of transport
• Complete Transport Communication Sheet
• Utilize AIDET; introduce self to patient and explain method of transport and destination
• Be knowledgeable and demonstrate safety precautions involving patient transport
• Upon arrival to destination, report patient’s arrival, deliver patient chart to appropriate personnel and obtain required signatures
• Cleaning procedure in vacated patient area including bed sanitizing to ensure linen is clean and in excellent condition
• Visually inspect area upon completion of cleaning to ensure appropriate levels of cleaning and neatness
• Familiar with possible hazards associated with oxygen
• Ensure that oxygen label is correctly displayed and designated as medical O2
• Ensure proper connection prior to initiating patient transport
• Familiar with the proper storage of oxygen tanks
• Use proper O2 holders when transporting a patient
• Utilize AIDET with each patient, visitor, and staff encounter
• Promote and project the hospital’s service standards in daily tasks
• Promote a positive patient experience during all patient encounters
• Demonstrate competencies related to the 7-step room cleaning procedure
• Provide consistent work performance and meet productivity standards

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency required
• Ability to read and write English to verify correct patient assignments and read and interpret labels when preparing cleaning solutions
• Preferred one year on-the-job experience to learn sanitation principles and techniques, hospital layout, and departmental/hospital policies and procedures
• Interpersonal skills necessary to be courteous to patients, visitors and staff when performing transporting and housekeeping assignments
• Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization

Long Island Community Hospital provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $44,616.00 annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
