Job Summary

Patient Transporter

Facilitating Internal Hospital Patient Moves

Summary: Responsible for the safe, timely, and accurate transport of patients, medical equipment, and patient-related items to their destinations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Properly and safely transport patients, secure IVs, drainage tubes, etc., and secure the patient.
• Use wheelchairs and other approved rolling stock to carry out duties, in accordance with patient transportation needs.
• Demonstrate competency in transporting all specific age groups.
• Ensure safe, timely, and accurate transport of patients using proper equipment.
• Communicate effectively with nursing staff, clinicians, technicians, or reception and dispatch.
• Ensure patient comfort, offer blankets, check modesty, and engage in appropriate conversations. Never transport patients in severe pain.
• Alert nursing staff immediately to signs of patient distress or equipment malfunction.
• Maintain and report equipment needing repairs.
• Comply with regulatory standards, including federal, state, and JCAHO.
• Adhere to confidentiality and patient rights policies as per HIPAA.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
