Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a Patient Transporter for an evening shift from 2:00pm to 10:30pm at IU Health University Hospital. You will move patients safely between service points, assist with transfers, and work closely with nursing staff to coordinate care.

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent; training in oxygen equipment and infection control; able to stand/walk long periods and lift up to 50 lbs. Overtime/weekend work with shift differentials is possible.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable job knowledge can be acquired; to include graduates from an IU Health transition-to-work program.
• Requires training in all assigned competencies (oxygen equipment and monitoring, lifting and transfers, infection control policies).
• Must have the ability to frequently stand and walk for extended periods.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stoop, bend and twist while handling these weights.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients to and from points of service within the healthcare facility (admissions, discharges, ancillary areas, and other service locations).
• Monitor and report any changes in a patient’s condition during transport.
• Collaborate with nursing staff and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient transfers.
• Adhere to safety protocols and infection control policies; ensure timely transport to minimize delays in care.

Details: This position is full-time, evening shift. The hours are 2:00pm until 10:30pm. Team member will be required to work every other weekend and holiday. This position is eligible for shift pay differentials.

Position Summary

The Patient Transporter plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of patients. Patient Transporters are responsible for transporting patients to and from points of service, including admissions, discharges, ancillary areas, and other service locations within the healthcare facility.

Duties include safe handling of patients and equipment during transport. Patients may be transported via bed, stretcher, or wheelchair. Monitoring and reporting any changes in a patient's condition during transportation. Collaborating with nursing staff and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient transfers. Adhering to all safety protocols and guidelines, including infection control policies. Ensuring timely transport of patients to minimize delays in care.

Position Requirements

High school graduate or an equivalent combination of education experience from which comparable job knowledge can be acquired; to include graduates from an approved IU Health transition-to-work program.

• Requires training in all assigned competencies such as but not limited to patient oxygen equipment and monitoring of levels and amounts, patient lifting and transfers, and infection control policies.
• Requires the ability to follow oxygen transport policy and procedures, including attaching and monitoring of oxygen tank levels during transport.
• Must have the ability to frequently work in a standing position and do large amounts of walking.
• Must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and be able to stoop, bend and twist while handling these weights.
• Must have the ability to use repetitive motions such as grasping, fine manipulating, medium dexterity, forearm/wrist rotation movement area used daily.
• Must have the ability to perform the basic patient lifting through in-service for proper technique.
• No experience required.
