Job summary

Indiana University Health University Hospital is seeking a Patient Transporter for a full-time day shift (7:00am–3:30pm). The position requires every-other-weekend and holiday work and offers shift pay differentials.

You will transport patients to and from admissions, discharges, and service areas, assist with patient handling, monitor changes in condition, and collaborate with nursing staff while following infection control policies to ensure timely care.

Qualifications

  • Training in competencies such as oxygen equipment handling, infection control policies.
  • Ability to stand, walk frequently, and lift up to 50 lbs.

This position is full-time, day shift. The hours are 7:00am until 3:30pm. Team member will be required to work every other weekend and holiday. This position is eligible for shift pay differentials.

Position Summary

The Patient Transporter plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of patients. Patient Transporters are responsible for transporting patients to and from points of service, including admissions, discharges, ancillary areas, and other service locations within the healthcare facility. Duties include safe handling of patients and equipment during transport. Patients may be transported via bed, stretcher, or wheelchair. Monitoring and reporting any changes in a patient's condition during transportation. Collaborating with nursing staff and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient transfers. Adhering to all safety protocols and guidelines, including infection control policies. Ensuring timely transport of patients to minimize delays in care.

Position Requirements

High school graduate or an equivalent combination of education experience from which comparable job knowledge can be acquired; to include graduates from an approved IU Health transition-to-work program.

  • Requires training in all assigned competencies such as but not limited to patient oxygen equipment and monitoring of levels and amounts, patient lifting and transfers, and infection control policies.
  • Requires the ability to follow oxygen transport policy and procedures, including attaching and monitoring of oxygen tank levels during transport.
  • Must have the ability to frequently work in a standing position and do large amounts of walking.
  • Must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and be able to stoop, bend and twist while handling these weights.
  • Must have the ability to use repetitive motions such as grasping, fine manipulating, medium dexterity, forearm/wrist rotation movement area used daily.
  • Must have the ability to perform the basic patient lifting through in-service for proper technique.
  • No experience required.
