- Escort ambulatory patients and transport patients by wheelchair, stretcher, or bed
- Verify patient identification using two identifiers and complete Safe Patient Transport Forms
- Monitor and respond to basic patient needs and provide handoff communication
- Assist nursing staff and/or lift technicians with moving and positioning patients using lift devices
- Follow personal protective equipment and infection‑control procedures for patients on precautions
- Deliver stretchers, beds, cribs, wheelchairs, and other transport equipment
- Clean, sanitize, and deep‑clean transport equipment and vehicles
- Transport specimens, blood products, contaminated equipment, medical records, pharmaceuticals, X‑ray films, sterile items, and other materials
- Check, distribute, and exchange portable oxygen tanks
- Use the TDSS web‑based dispatch system and maintain trip logs and statistical records
- Participate in emergency/disaster transport assignments, including trauma patients, deceased patients, and decontamination support
- Assume dispatcher duties when trained and directed
- Attend required meetings, conferences, and seminars; support quality improvement and departmental objectives
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
- Good interpersonal skills and a customer service orientation
- Ability to maintain regular, reliable, and predictable attendance
- Compliance with departmental policies, procedures, health and safety regulations, and requirements
- Preferred: Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 6 months of hire
- Preferred: Six months’ experience in a hospital environment
- Ability to work on call as required
