Job description

Transport Responsibilities
  • Transport patients safely and effectively by wheelchair, stretcher, or bed using appropriate safety equipment
  • Exercise caution around IV lines, pumps, monitors, oxygen tanks, and other medical devices
  • Transport specimens and equipment as assigned
  • Maintain awareness of isolation precautions and observe standard precautions
  • Monitor patients for comfort, safety, and mental and physical status during transport
  • Recognize equipment or patient problems and report them to appropriate clinical staff
  • Bring patients’ charts and essential records with patients
  • Confirm orders or trip requests and review patient status with unit staff
  • Relay critical information to staff upon entry or return to the department
  • Perform patient-related clerical, maintenance, and non-clinical direct care activities
  • Monitor and maintain supplies and materials on transportation equipment
  • Clean transportation equipment and report or arrange routine repairs and maintenance
  • Follow priorities set by transport tracking software or dispatcher
  • Perform other assigned duties within the scope of the position
  • Perform the role at Mary Washington Hospital and Stafford Hospital locations as scheduled
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • BLS certification required
  • Previous experience in a patient care setting preferred
  • Constant (67-100% of workday) walking, standing, use of arms and hands
  • Frequent (34-66% of workday) bending, stooping, kneeling, and squatting
  • Ability to lift 35 lbs.
  • Ability to push and pull 20 lbs.Auditory and visual skills to include color determination
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Ability to reach above/overhead
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Capacity to cope with difficult situations
  • Ability to tolerate irregular hours including evenings, nights, and weekends
  • Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment when exposed to bloodborne pathogens
  • Potential exposure to radiation and toxic chemicals
