Job summary

Parkland Health and Hospital System in Dallas seeks a Patient Transporter to move patients by wheelchair, stretcher, or gurney, ensuring safety and comfort across campus.

You will support critical care transports with clinical staff, maintain professional relations with nurses and physicians, and participate in ongoing trainings, including back-injury prevention within 90 days.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read and write.
• Must have very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to represent Parkland in a positive manner.
• Must exhibit caring, service‑oriented behaviors toward people encountered and be able to defuse emotionally charged situations.
• Must be able to apply sound judgment toward satisfying a variety of questions and problems from patients and visitors.
• Must be able to follow both oral and written directions.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, nurses, physicians and other hospital personnel.
• Must have basic math skills.
• Must complete within 90 days of hire and/or placement a Preventative Back Injury & Proper Lift Technique class and demonstrate proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Safely transports patients via stretcher or wheelchair to departments/areas of PHHS to help safeguard patients while on the campus.
• Assists in the transport of critical care patients in unison with the appropriate clinical staff.
• Maintains a positive working relationship with other areas of the hospital, nurses, physicians and other Parkland staff.
• Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction.
• Stays abreast of the latest developments in customer service by attending in‑house seminars/workshops and reading internal publications.
• Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the Patient Transportation area.

Primary Purpose

Transports patients around PHHS by wheelchair, stretcher, beds, and gurney to ensure patient safety.

Minimum Specifications

Education

• None.

Experience

• Prefer 6 months of experience in healthcare and/or customer service.

Certification/Registration/Licensure

• Must have a current CPR-Heartsaver course completion card within 90 days of hire and/or placement from one of the following:
• American Heart Association
• American Red Cross Rescuer
• Military Training Network

2. Assists in the transport of critical care patients in unison with the appropriate clinical staff (e.g., transport patient from ICU to Radiology).
3. Maintains a positive working relationship with other areas of the hospital, nurses, physicians and other Parkland staff to facilitate effective communication.
4. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor and implements and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals and mission of Parkland.
5. Stays abreast of the latest developments in customer service by attending in‑house seminars/workshops and reading internal publications. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
6. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the Patient Transportation area. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.

Job Accountabilities

2. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
3. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
