Job summary

UC San Diego is seeking a Patient Transport Technician to support patient care operations. The role involves transporting patients across the hospital using wheelchairs, gurneys, and beds, and assisting with transfers and lifting as needed.

This position requires standing for long periods, the ability to lift over 50 pounds, and the willingness to work overtime weekends. Primary location is East Campus with float to La Jolla and Hillcrest as needed.

Qualifications

• Certification in BART or BLS/CPR at time of hire, with commitment to obtain BART within six months.
• Six months experience in a healthcare facility.
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods.
• Ability to lift over 50 pounds and push/pull a gurney or bed with patients up to 300 pounds.
• Willingness to work overtime weekends as needed.
• Completes annual required trainings and patient handling courses.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients (conscious, semi-conscious, or unconscious) to and from units, imaging, and care areas using wheelchairs, gurneys or beds.
• Assist with patient lifting, turning, repositioning and transfers.
• Transport equipment, oxygen cylinders, medical records, imaging-related materials, and other items as requested by departments.
• Move empty beds and related equipment between units and storage locations to support bed availability.
• Collaborate with Transport Call Center, nursing units, imaging, and hospital teams to prioritize transports and improve throughput.
