UW Medicine is seeking a Patient Services Specialist 2 for the UW Medical Center-Montlake Admitting Department. This 50% FTE role (20 hours/week) on-site in Seattle supports admissions, transfers, and discharges, handling clerical duties and patient interactions while ensuring privacy and accuracy of information.

Qualifications

  • High School graduation or equivalent.
  • One year of healthcare or administrative experience.
  • Equivalent education/experience may substitute for required qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Register patients and verify, collect, and update demographic and financial information.
  • Determine eligibility for care, assign payor plans, and verify insurance benefits for emergency and planned services.
  • Obtain authorizations and necessary signatures for consents; complete Medicare as a Secondary Payor forms; collect co-pays or patient liabilities.
  • Respond to patient inquiries and provide directions within the medical center.
  • Assist patients and families via phone and in person while maintaining confidentiality of patient information.
  • Triage phone calls to clinical staff and gather necessary info for return calls or emergencies.
  • Communicate with patients, providers, and external agencies regarding financial arrangements, protocols, billing procedures, and insurance coverage.
  • Assist patients in completing paperwork, including insurance forms.
