Job description

Patient Services Associate

Join Michigan Medicine as a Patient Services Associate. You will check in patients, schedule appointments, verify information, process charges, and support clinical staff.

Base Pay Range

$43,056.00/yr – $62,462.00/yr

Responsibilities
  • Accurately schedule patient appointments using Cadence and manage pre‑arrival functions to ensure clinic visits are prepared.
  • Serve as a resource for physicians, staff, and patients for insurance authorizations and managed‑care issues.
  • Assist patients with payment questions, collect copays and past‑due balances at check‑out.
  • Reconcile clinic cash collections and credit card transactions daily following clinic standards.
  • Ensure completeness of visit information, including diagnosis and procedure codes for billing.
  • Support nursing and medical assistant staff to create efficient patient flow.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience in a large, complex health‑care setting preferred.
  • Familiarity with UMHS electronic medical record systems preferred.
  • 2–3 years of experience.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and team‑work skills.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
  • Experience with UMHS EMR and related software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Active listening and information‑technology proficiency.
Physical Requirements

Sitting, standing, walking, lifting less than 51 lbs.
