Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Verbally report critical test results and request information as needed.
• Collect blood specimens from inpatients, outpatients, nursing homes, and home-bound patients.
• Verify patient test preparation criteria and instruct on collection/handling of non-blood specimens.
• Sort and transport specimens, requests, mail, and results to appropriate locations.
• Perform legal blood draws, urine drug collections, and breath alcohol testing.
• Administer glucose-load tests to patients as ordered by physicians.
• Utilize lab software and clerical skills to complete tasks.
• Apply medical terminology and ICD-10 coding as used in the lab.
• Interact with patients and visitors with excellent interpersonal communication.

In this role you will be:

• Verbally reporting critical test results, requesting additional information for completion of testing, and investigating new/unusual test requests.
• Collecting blood specimens from inpatients, outpatients, nursing home, and home-bound patients.
• Verifying that patients meet test preparation criteria and instructing patients in the collection and handling of non-blood specimens.
• Sorting and transporting specimens, requests, mail, and results to appropriate locations.
• Performing legal blood draws, urine drug collections, and breath alcohol testing.
• Administering glucose-test beverage to patients on order of physician.
• Utilizing the computer and clerical skills to perform tasks.

Required:

• LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
  • BLS certification required or obtained within 1 month of hire
