Job summary

Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital in Saginaw is seeking a Patient Service Representative to greet and assist patients and visitors at the check-in/out desk, verify information, and help with scheduling and insurance processes.

You will handle routine data entry, coordinate initial evaluations and appointments, respond to inquiries, and support Scheduling and Patient Financial Services staff to ensure a smooth patient experience and accurate financial processing.

Qualifications

  • GED or Diploma required; Associates degree preferred.
  • Experience in scheduling or patient financial services is a plus.
  • Strong data entry, telephone, and administrative accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and visitors at check-in/out and provide information.
  • Collect and analyze demographic, insurance, and clinical data for pre-registration.
  • Coordinate initial evaluations and multi-discipline appointments.
  • Handle calls from insurance/care managers to coordinate care.
  • Post cash collections and provide financial guidance to resolve self-pay balances.
  • Respond to inquiries from patients or their representatives.
  • Support Scheduling and Patient Financial Services staff as needed.
  • Perform other clerical and supportive duties as delegated.

40 hours, Monday- Thursday 8am-4:30pm, Fridays 8am-3pm, No holidays or weekends

Compensation

starting at $19.50 and goes up based on experience

Summary

Greet, provide information, and respond to the needs of patients, families, staff, and other visitors at the check-in/out desk including appointment check-in and out, registration,authorization/verification of insurance(s),explanation of benefits; collection of co-pays, assistance with way finding, or other services or resources for a program specific multi-discipline department. Interact in acustomer focusedmanner during referral processing.Provide office support for all Schedulingand Patient Financial Services staff.Work cooperatively with other departments and outpatient staff/leadership toassurefinancial reimbursement for outpatient services.

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Greet, provide information, and respond to the needs of patients, families, staff, and other visitors at the check-in/out desk

  • Accurately collect and analyze all required demographic, insurance/financial, and clinical data elements necessary to pre-register and register all types of patients

  • Coordinate/scheduleinitialevaluation andsubsequentpatient appointments for multi-disciplines based on patient needs

  • Manage calls from insurance/care managers to coordinate multi discipline care for patients

  • Collect any expected charge for service provided and completetimelyposting of cash collections, accepting and generatingappropriate receiptsfor monies and credit card payments received;providefinancial guidance to achieve a mutually acceptable resolution of the expected self-pay balance including options of payment and charity care

  • Receive and properly respond to telephone, electronic, or face-to-face inquiries from patients or their legal representatives

  • Perform all otherappropriate activitiesas directed and as necessary to meet the patient’s needs and to achieve expected departmental and organizational outcomes

  • Provide various other responsibilities and clerical/therapist support as delegated by Manager

Essential Job Qualifications
  • Minimum of the GED/Diploma,Associatesdegree preferred

  • Computer experience with high accuracy level of data entry.

  • Excellent telephone and customer service skills.

  • Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, communication, and overall customer service skills.

  • Ability to perform in ahigh pacedenvironment with a positive attitude and interact with professional staff inan appropriate manner.

Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a health-related field

  • Minimum 12-18 months’ work experience in healthcare with scheduling and/or PFS related job duties.

  • Working knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding classification systems.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and clinical rehabilitation.
