Job summary

Franklin County Medical Center in southeast Idaho is seeking a Patient Service Representative to greet and admit patients, schedule appointments, collect payments, and maintain patient forms with courtesy and professionalism.

You will work closely with hospital staff and patients to ensure smooth front-desk operations, help with routine office procedures, obtain prior authorizations, and support the billing department while upholding HIPAA and COVID-19 safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • Customer service experience and ability to work cooperatively with patients, physicians, staff, and external parties.
  • Proficient typing and keyboarding skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and experience with office equipment (computers and phones).
  • Basic understanding of CPT and ICD-10 coding procedures.
  • Calm and effective under busy or stressful situations.
  • Able to multitask efficiently.

What You Can Do for FCMC


  • Our Patient Service Representative works with both our hospital staff and our patients to ensure that each patient receives the best possible care. As a courteous and professional individual, this role is well-suited for those who are skilled in public relations. Some of the Patient Service Representative’s duties can include:

  • Greeting and admitting patients in a friendly manner, and keeping them informed of their appointment status

  • Scheduling appointment times for patients

  • Maintaining forms to be given to, filled out for, or received from patients

  • Receiving payments and co-payments, and recording patient charges for the billing department

  • Delivering messages to the physician or the physician's staff

  • Assisting with routine procedures encountered in the physicians’ office

Essential Job Functions


  • Regular and predictable attendance is required

  • Adequate hearing to perform job duties in person and over the telephone; able to use a stethoscope and respond to verbal questions.

  • Must be able to speak in order to communicate clearly with patients in person and over the telephone.

  • Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including visual examination of patients and reading information from printed sources and computer screens.

  • Requires frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds unassisted, including assisting patients when required.

  • Adequate physical ability, including sufficient manual dexterity to perform the requisite health care services.

  • Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting, and sitting, some heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift.

  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment.

  • Must comply with HIPAA to protect information that is sensitive, proprietary, or confidential

  • Must submit to COVID-19 testing as required by CMS and other regulatory agencies according to FCMC policy

  • Have full COVID-19 vaccination (some exemptions allowed)



Work Environment


  • FCMC operates 24 hours per day, each day of the year: operational needs of departments may require that you be available to work all shifts, weekends, and holidays to meet the needs of the patients

  • Potential exposure to blood, body tissue, and fluids, contagious diseases, and hazardous waste

  • Occasional exposure to bodily injury, loud/unpleasant noise, unpleasant odor, and emotional or physical stress
