Job summary

Pacific Neuropsychiatric Specialists is seeking a Patient Service Representative to support front desk scheduling, patient communication, and insurance coordination in a mental health setting.

• Experience with scheduling, phone operator, and medical facility work.

• Telephone and computer skills are a must.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks under stress with changing priorities.
• Intermediate math and computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Schedules appointments with the appropriate provider and time/location slot.
• Routes calls to the appropriate extension, takes messages and enters as a task.
• Uses electronic systems to obtain patient information effectively.
• Collects and compiles information for electronic records for clerical and scheduling duties.
• Maintains accurate, legally sound, and complete records.
• Interfaces with medical staff to coordinate patient care.
• Enters notes for scheduling in the EMR.
• Documents informed consent with patients for visits as needed.
• Confirms insurance provider and requests prior authorization as needed.
• Performs duties to ensure patient safety and reduce medical errors.
• Assists other department members as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Schedules appointments with the appropriate provider and time/location slot, utilizing appropriate scheduling protocol.
• Routes calls to the appropriate extension, ability to take messages and enter as a task.
• Utilizes all electronic systems and internet access to obtain necessary patient information effectively and appropriately.
• Collects and compiles accurate information for electronic records to perform clerical and scheduling duties accurately and efficiently.
• Demonstrates ability to maintain accurate, legally sound, and complete records.
• Interfaces with appropriate medical staff to ensure a cohesive working relationship in providing patient care services.
• Enters notes/special instructions needed for scheduling in the electronic medical record.
• Completes accurate documentation of informed consent with patients for visits as needed.
• Confirms the patient’s insurance provider and either obtain prior authorization or communicates the need for prior authorization to appropriate parties as needed.
• Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that organizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
• Assists other members of the department as needed.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• High School Diploma required. College or college-equivalent education is preferred.
• Previous experience with scheduling, phone operator, and working in a medical facility.
• Must be friendly, outgoing, “people-oriented”.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
• Telephone and computer skills are a must.
• Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks at once, and deal with high levels of stress in an environment of changing priorities.
• Intermediate math and computer skills.
• Must be able to interact with all levels of staffing in a professional manner.
• Strong customer skills required.
