Job summary

Optum is seeking a Patient Service Representative to join our Indianapolis team. The role handles appointment scheduling, patient registration, cashiering and front-office support with a strong focus on patient experience.

Typical schedule is Monday–Friday with an 8-hour shift. The position offers benefits and growth opportunities within a large health care organization.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • 1+ years of telephonic or face to face customer service experience.
  • Basic level of proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) or equivalent productivity software.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional service to all customers.
  • Greets patients as they arrive and manages wait time.
  • Complete check-in and check-out tasks including insurance verification and copy of required documents.
  • Collect co-payments, co-insurance, and deductibles and issue receipts.
  • Manage cashier box and daily deposits according to company policies.
  • Process walk-in patients and visitors.
  • Answer phones and schedule appointments, verifying visit type and PCP.
  • Maintain medical records and ensure proper filing/scanning.
  • Ensure waiting room is clean and information is communicated to patients.
  • Work with back-office staff to ensure smooth patient flow.
  • Resolve service issues and defer to management when necessary.

Patient Service Representative

The Patient Service Representative is responsible to the Center Administrator and provides appointment scheduling, patient registration, cashiering, answers incoming calls and performs other related clerical functions. This primary role provides front office support functions.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8-hour shift between the hours of 7:15am-5pm (typically 8am-5pm) EST. Schedule to be determined by manager upon hire.

Location: 7151 Marsh Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46278. Some travel may be required to Carmel, IN for training, as needed.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional service to all customers
  • Greets patients as they arrive and manages wait time
  • Complete check-in and check-out tasks to include insurance verification and copy required documents
  • Collects co-payments, co-insurance, and deductibles and issues receipts
  • Manages cashier box and daily deposits according to company policies
  • Processes walk-in patients and visitors
  • Answers phones and schedules appointments as necessary, verifying correct visit type and primary care provider
  • Answer telephone calls, re-direct calls as appropriate, assist callers with questions or concerns, and take messages as needed
  • Manages medical records (maintains, files/scans, prepares for schedule)
  • Ensures all correspondence is scanned and/or filed, processes requests for medical records release and maintains appropriate logs, etc.
  • Responsible for waiting room management cleanliness, communicate pertinent information to patients and ensure all patients have been assisted
  • Work with back-office staff to ensure smooth patient flow
  • Resolve service issues and complaints, and defer to appropriate management or clinical personnel when necessary
  • Assist co-workers and team members with duties when requested, to include but not limited to, floating to other areas
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1+ years of telephonic or face to face customer service experience
  • Basic level of proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) or equivalent productivity software
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1+ years of experience in a healthcare setting or medical setting
  • Previous experience with medical insurance
  • Prior experience with EMR computer applications
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $16.00 to $29.00 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
