Atlantic Health Newton Medical Center in Newton, NJ is seeking a Patient Safety Technician for per-diem, varied shifts. This role provides continuous observation for patients identified as at risk for injury, self-harm, or elopement, and supports safety through vigilant monitoring and timely communication with the clinical team.

Key duties include one-on-one observation, assisting with ADLs, maintaining patient dignity, documenting intake and output, and reporting changes to nursing staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to provide continuous observation for extended periods.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to remain alert.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to follow safety protocols, policies, and documentation standards.
• Physical ability to assist patients with mobility and ADLs.

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous, one-on-one observation for assigned patients in sitter and spotter assignments.
• Protect patients from self-harm, injury, or elopement by maintaining constant awareness and presence.
• Conduct continuous rounds and maintain visual contact with the patient as required.
• Assist patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding, and mobility.
• Assist with bathroom use, commode support, and incontinence care while preserving dignity and safety.
• Monitor and accurately document intake and output.
• Perform preventive skin care, oral/mouth care, and assist with feeding as needed.
• Change bed linens and maintain a clean, safe patient environment.
• Observe and promptly report changes in patient behavior, condition, or safety concerns to nursing staff.
• Accurately document patient activity per policy and regulatory requirements.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support patient care and safety.
