Job summary

Atlantic Health Newton Medical Center seeks a Patient Safety Technician-Per-Diem to provide continuous, one-on-one observation for high-risk patients and to assist with ADLs. The position supports patient care through proactive monitoring, rapid response to changes, and respectful, dignity-preserving assistance.

Qualifications

• Provide continuous, one-on-one observation for assigned patients in sitter and spotter roles.
• Maintain vigilant presence to protect patients from self-harm, injury, or elopement.
• Communicate clearly with nursing staff and chart observations accordingly.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living and mobility while ensuring safety.
• Follow established safety policies, documentation standards, and reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous, one-on-one observation for assigned patients in Sitter and Spotter assignments
• Protect patients from self-harm, injury, or elopement by maintaining constant awareness and presence
• Conduct continuous rounds and maintain visual contact with the patient as required
• Assist patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding, and mobility
• Assist with bathroom use, commode support, and incontinence care while preserving dignity and safety
• Monitor and accurately document intake and output
• Perform preventive skin care, oral/mouth care, and assist with feeding as needed
• Change bed linens and maintain a clean, safe patient environment
• Observe and promptly report changes in patient behavior, condition, or safety concerns to nursing staff
• Accurately document patient activity per policy and regulatory requirements
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support patient care and safety
