Job summary

The Iowa City VA Health Care System is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) focused on Patient Safety. You will collaborate with the Chief of Quality and Performance Improvement and Nurse Executive to establish and maintain safety policies, procedures, and compliance with VHA directives and standards.

Responsibilities include reviewing electronic health records, educating staff on incident reporting, and guiding process improvement initiatives.

• English language proficiency required to be eligible for direct patient care

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with leadership to develop and maintain patient safety policies and procedures
• Conducts regular reviews of electronic health records to verify adherence to VA guidelines
• Educates staff on patient safety practices, incident reporting, and process improvement
• Analyzes patient safety incidents and data to identify trends and improvement opportunities
• Communicates goals and policy information to staff and patients effectively
• Coordinates with clinical disciplines to ensure timely and safe patient care
• Leads interdisciplinary teams to improve patient safety processes and outcomes
• Serves as a resource on regulatory standards (Joint Commission, CARF, CDC, OSHA, APIC) and recommends practice changes
• Summarizes patient safety and performance data for leadership and staff
• Supports High Reliability Organization principles by promoting a Just Culture and continuous improvement
