Job summary

Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health is seeking a part-time Patient Safety Assistant to provide direct supervision for patients requiring safety oversight. You will assist with daily activities, stay at the bedside, and ensure a safe, respectful environment while coordinating with the nursing team.

The role emphasizes infection control, patient dignity, and collaboration with healthcare professionals. CPR certification is required within 30 days, with orientation provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to speak, understand, read and write English.
• Healthcare provider CPR certification (within 30 days of hire).

Responsibilities

• Provides direct supervision/line of sight to patients with safety concerns.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living (bathing, hygiene, feeding, etc.).
• Stays at the patient’s bedside and maintains direct line of vision at all times.
• Escorts and assists patients with ambulatory/bathroom privileges.
• Interacts with patients to provide diversionary activities and comfort.
• Documents patient behaviors and interventions in the EMR or on paper.
• Communicates patient and unit information to the RN and interdisciplinary team.
• Serves as preceptor and mentor for new Patient Safety Assistants.
