Job summary

Ochsner Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician to work under the supervision of a licensed nurse to deliver basic patient care and maintain patient safety. The role involves observing patients, communicating changes to nursing staff, and supporting non-clinical duties when needed.

Required qualifications include a high school diploma, BLS certification, CPI training before independent care, and nursing assistant certification for certain facilities.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required.
• Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) training to be obtained prior to independent patient care.
• Current Nursing Assistant certification required for Skilled Nursing Facilities/Units or areas with Patient Care Tech duties.

Responsibilities

• Maintains a clean and safe environment in the patient care area.
• Assists with the plan of care as delegated by the staff nurse/department lead within scope of practice.
• Provides care based on physical, psycho/social, educations, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the ages of patients served in the assigned area.
• Communicates effectively with patients, families and MDT.
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy and consent.
• Other related duties as required.
