The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Northwest is seeking a Patient Representative. You will counsel patients on financial obligations, guide referrals to sponsoring agencies, process pre-certifications, and help optimize revenue cycle reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Greets and assists the public professionally, maintaining effective communication and confidentiality.
  • Resolves conflicts with careful listening and negotiation skills.
  • Maintains accurate records and uses communication devices effectively.
  • Schedules and coordinates appointments, pre-registers patients, and updates accurate information.
  • Manages walk-ins, creates patient charts, and handles scheduling for surgeries and tests.
  • Issues excuses, sends no-show letters, and maintains tracker boards.
  • Verifies insurance, completes ABNs, and handles authorizations and pre-certifications.
  • Tracks referrals and ensures accurate benefit information in systems.
  • Maintains care plans, inputs statistics, and addresses medical record issues.
  • Generates maintenance reports, including work denials and canceled clinic reports.
  • Collects payments, issues receipts, and reconciles daily deposits.
  • Counsels patients on financial information and monitors balances.
  • Enters and reconciles daily charges (if applicable).
  • Attends training, staff meetings, and orientation sessions.
  • Completes annual skill assessments and maintains job competencies.

Summary of Job Duties:

We are seeking a dedicated Patient Representative to join our team. The Patient Representative works under general supervision, counseling patients on their financial status and obligations. This position will identify and refer the patient and/or responsible party to an appropriate sponsoring agency. The position will be responsible for processing high-risk pre-certifications, developing and implementing denial avoidance plans, and producing reports on revenue cycle functions within the various departments to ensure appropriate financial error reports are worked and corrected. The patient representative is expected to demonstrate competency in the job elements of all the levels of the Access Coordinator positions. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing excellent patient support while contributing to the financial health of our organization.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED plus four (4) years of experience in customer service, call center, business office administration, registration, billing, insurance, or scheduling.
