Job summary

Jackson Hospital is seeking an Registration Clerk to support the front desk operations. You will manage pre-registration, verify patient benefit information, and coordinate with financial counseling to determine patient financial responsibility at the point of service.

Excellent data entry, communication, and customer service skills are essential, along with the ability to use AIDET in interactions with patients and staff across departments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in healthcare business office is preferred.
• Ability to type 40–50 words per minute.
• Strong communication and customer service abilities.

Responsibilities

• Handle pre-registration and registration tasks.
• Perform payer identification and verification.
• Refer to financial counseling when needed.
• Assist with point of service collections.
• Accurately gather and enter patient demographic and benefit data.
• Verify benefits eligibility and coordinate benefits.
• Determine and collect patient financial responsibility at the point of service.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (HIPAA, EMTALA, Medicare-related).
• Use AIDET to communicate clearly with patients, families, and staff.

Job description

Dependent upon assignment within the department, responsibilities may include pre-registration, registration, payer identification and verification, referral to financial counseling, and point of service collections. Vital functions include: timely, accurate and complete data gathering and entry in the computer system(s) of patient demographic and benefit information, verification of benefits eligibility and limitations, coordination of benefits, determination and collection of patient’s financial responsibility at the point of service, and satisfaction of regulatory requirements (medical necessity determination, Medicare Secondary Payer completion and coordination of benefits, Important Message from Medicare issuance and signage, HIPAA, and EMTALA). Ability to communicate concisely and clearly is important. Essential is the ability to use AIDET and provide excellent customer service to patients, patients’ family members, healthcare providers, medical staff offices, and peers.

High school diploma or equivalent. Previous business office experience preferred in a healthcare environment. Ability to interact with the public, i.e. children, adolescents, adults and geriatric. Ability to interpret and possess basic medical and anatomy terminology skills. Manual dexterity and visual acuity necessary to utilize the PC and calculator. Visual acuity also necessary for filing and proofing documents. Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time. Verbal communication and hearing ability to communicate with a multitude of customers. Frequent lifting of patient luggage (25-40 lbs.) Ability to type 40 to 50 words per minute.
