Corewell Health’s Constant Observation Unit at Trenton Hospital provides supervision for patients requiring close monitoring due to safety concerns. The Patient Observation Aide works under an RN, assisting with daily living activities while maintaining constant vigilance and clear communication with nursing staff.

This part-time daytime position supports inpatient and emergency care in a Magnet-designated facility with a Level II trauma center and a broad range of specialties.

Qualifications

• Required High School Diploma or equivalent.

• Provide close observation of patients under RN supervision.
• Assist with activities of daily living as needed.
• RN delegates patient care needs and communicates with the nurse.
• Maintain constant observation of patient activity and behavior and report to the nurse.

About the Unit

The Constant Observation Unit provides support to the In-patient and Emergency Center by allocating staff that will supervise and monitor patient requiring continuous or one to one monitoring because of high risk of self-harm, aggression or other safety concerns to ensure patient safety and well-being.

Scope of Work

The Patient Observation Aide, under the supervision of an RN, provides close observation of patients and assists in the provision of a safe and clean environment. Assists with activities of daily living, unless the patient needs are beyond the Patient Observation Aide's scope. The RN delegates to the Patient Observation Aide the patient's identified care needs, diagnosis, visual, auditory, or language barriers, as well as any special consideration (NPO, bed alarms, etc.). Maintains constant observation of the patient's activity and behavior and communicates regularly to the nurse.
