Job summary

Prairie Mountain Health is seeking a Dietary Aide to support Nutrition Services under supervision, assisting in food service assembly, production and distribution in line with menus and therapeutic specifications.

The role emphasizes portion control, waste reduction, sanitation, safety, and accurate cash handling. Training, independence in duties, and strong communication are essential, with regular duties spanning prep, service and support tasks.

Qualifications

• Grade 10 education or equivalent required.
• Current Food Handler Training Certificate Level 1 or willingness to obtain within six months.
• Other combinations of education and experience will be considered.
• Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology.
• Demonstrated dexterity, speed, and efficient work methods.
• Demonstrated organizational skills, and the ability to work independently.
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated flexibility to facilitate changes in techniques and procedures.
• Ability to display independent judgment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the training and/or orientation of Nutrition Services staff and students.
• Familiarize with all diets, reference materials, and technical terms used in Nutrition Services.
• Adhere to approved menu and therapeutic guidelines for preparation and serving of diets.
• Make changes to client menus as directed in consultation with Supervisor/Manager/RD.
• Assist with food preparation (toast, cereal, nourishments, salads, etc.).
• Assemble/serve meals to clients per portion standards and serving guidelines.
• Deliver food carts/trays and collect soiled trays/dishes.
• Set, clear, clean and sanitize dining room tables.
• Prepare and deliver items for catered functions.
• Perform cashier function.
• Wash dishes, pots, pans, and utensils per sanitation standards.
• Maintain sanitary conditions in Nutrition Services areas and equipment.
• Follow safe work procedures for relevant equipment/tasks.
• Ensure equipment is clean and operating efficiently.
• Label, date, store or discard leftovers appropriately.
