Job summary

ChristianaCare is hiring a Food Service Assistant I to support our Food & Nutrition Services team. You will help ensure patients receive accurate meals that meet dietary needs while maintaining the highest standards of food safety and customer service.

This entry-level role, based at ChristianaCare, offers a full-time schedule with early and late shifts. Starting pay is $17.80 per hour, with automatic increases after six months and one year of continuous employment.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Assemble high-volume patient meal trays accurately and efficiently according to tray line meal tickets and delivery schedules.
• Ensure proper placement, portioning, and presentation of all food items on patient trays.
• Read, interpret, and assemble meals for regular and therapeutic diets, including modified textures and prescribed liquids.
• Replenish hot and cold food items to support patient meal service operations.
• Perform ware washing, pot washing, sanitation, and utility functions per departmental standards.
• Operate dish machines and ware washing equipment while monitoring sanitation temperatures.
• Maintain pot washing areas using approved cleaning and sanitizing procedures.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment by following sanitation procedures and waste disposal guidelines.
• Handle chemicals and cleaning products safely and according to guidelines.
