Job summary

Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton, Illinois is seeking a patient-focused Lab Associate I to join our laboratory team. This role supports patient care through specimen collection, processing and lab support functions in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

We value teamwork, accuracy and exceptional service for patients, families and clinicians, with part-time days/evenings and rotating weekends. Phlebotomy experience is preferred, but training and certification support are provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Two or more years of phlebotomy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood and non-blood specimens from patients in inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Perform venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures following safety guidelines.
• Process and prepare specimens for testing, including centrifuging and handling samples.
• Ensure accurate patient identification and specimen labeling.
• Monitor and maintain specimen integrity during collection and processing.
• Answer incoming laboratory calls and assist with routine inquiries.
