Job summary

Atlantic Health in Pompton Plains, NJ is seeking a Phlebotomist to ensure accurate specimen collection, labeling, and handling under supervision. You will work with HIS and LIS, support patient comfort, and participate in training while upholding PRIDE and AIDET principles to deliver compassionate care.

Responsibilities include interpreting orders, processing specimens, labeling, and ensuring safety and accuracy in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Certification from an accredited phlebotomy training program preferred.
• Foreign education credentials require US equivalency documentation by an AHS approved agency.
• Minimum two (2) years previous job experience as a phlebotomist preferred.
• ASCP, NHA, NPA approved certification in Phlebotomy or defined equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Accurately interprets provider test orders and follows approved standard operating procedures for all specimen collections.
• Accurately uses the HIS and LIS for patient registration and test order entry.
• Evaluates provider test orders and collects specimens for acceptability and determines rejections according to established guidelines.
• Accurately labels aliquot samples as required.
• Recognizes and corrects defects before they are passed on to the next step of the process.
• Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in the use of the HIS and LIS software systems in all job-related functions.
• Assists with training of team members and students.
• Models compassionate, patient-centered care by ensuring comfort during specimen collection, addressing concerns with empathy, and maintaining a professional, respectful demeanor to enhance the overall patient experience. Adheres to PRIDE and AIDET models.
• Demonstrates knowledge of and practices department safety procedures in accordance with policies and regulatory agencies.
• Operates and maintains all technical equipment according to approved standard operating procedures.
• Maintains quantities and reviews expiration dates of all supplies.
