Job summary
Sarasota Memorial Health Care System seeks a Patient Care Technician for the Venice campus to support nurses and care teams in delivering high-quality patient care.
Position requires Florida CNA/EMT licensure or active eligibility, high school diploma, and BLS CPR certification. Hospital setting, full-time and part-time shifts available with comprehensive benefits. Located near I-75 in Venice, FL.
Qualifications
- Florida licensure as CNA/EMT/Paramedic or equivalent, or eligible nursing student pursuing RN/LPN; option to obtain Florida CNA license within 120 days after graduation.
- Basic computer skills are required for electronic records and workflow.
Responsibilities
- Assist with direct patient care under RN/LPN supervision.
- Support core nursing tasks and ensure patient safety and comfort.
- Document patient information using electronic health records.
- Participate in unit-based patient care activities to maintain efficient workflow.

The Patient Care Technician performs tasks supportive to delivery of patient care in assigned departments under the direction of a Registered Nurse of Licensed Practical Nurse.

- Employees hired without the above licensure and/or by years of experience only prior to 11/11/19, are grandfathered in and will have the option of obtaining the stipulated licensure.
- 1.) Florida licensure as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT); Paramedic, or a military corpsman; or National licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT); which must be maintained active during employment; or
- 2.) Nursing students who are eligible for CNA exam are required to: a.) currently be enrolled in an accredited school of Nursing (RN/LPN); b.) have completed the first semester of clinical for ASN/BSN degree or completion of first trimester for LPN; and c.) cannot be currently licensed in the U.S. as a RN or LPN; or
- 3.) Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certification: Provide certification of successful completion of a Florida State Board approved program and successfully obtain a Florida CNA license within 120 days of graduation.
- Requires basic working knowledge of commonly used computer applications.
- Requires current Basic Life Support (BLS) certified through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
