We are a diverse team of professionals dedicated to providing exceptional patient care, and developing our staff is essential to that work. Our training program is designed to take those without hospital-based healthcare experience through a step-wise program, culminating in the achievement of Patient Care Technician status.
Develop your skills and knowledge as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) in a ten-week training program. PCTs at TMC work in a care team with an RN to provide patient care. Typical tasks include taking vital signs, assisting patients with activities of daily living, and maintaining patient cleanliness. Below is a video to learn more about PCT responsibilities.
Training Breakdown:
The PCT training program is an 8-week program designed to introduce you to healthcare in general and specifically to the role of the PCT at TMC. The first two weeks are spent in the classroom and skills lab learning the basics for the role of patient care technician/assistant. These sessions are led by the TMC Clinical Education team at various locations on the TMC campus.
Week 3 involves clinical experience on a TMC unit to integrate theory and skills learned. Week 4 includes clinical practice, additional classroom sessions for specialty skills, a final written exam, and skills testing. Weeks 5-8 focus on transition to practice through a preceptorship. Weeks 9 and 10 involve validation by an RN.
Candidates must be available between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm for training and will be assigned a 12-hour shift (day or night) upon program completion. All candidates are required to sign a one-year contract. The interview process includes a unit shadowing experience.
