Job description

Position Purpose

The patient care technician is responsible and accountable for assisting patients with activities of daily living, performing technical skills, and maintaining a safe and clean environment under the supervision of the Registered Nurse/Clinical Coordinator in charge of the patient care unit. The individual must demonstrate the ability to deliver care appropriate to the patient’s age-specific needs, as outlined in the unit/area/department policies and procedures.

Role Specific Competencies

  1. Provide quality care for age-specific populations such as pediatric and geriatric patients (PCT).
  2. Document patient care information accurately including vital signs, intake and output, and other measurements; ensure proper posting and recording.
  3. Ensure patient safety and comfort by adhering to safety protocols, maintaining equipment, and responding promptly to patient needs.
  4. Perform direct patient care treatments and procedures with sound judgment and technical skill, including specimen collection, EKGs, and assisting with procedures.
  5. Maintain a clean work environment and participate in unit activities, meetings, and performance improvement efforts.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Current CNA certification in Maryland.
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR/BLS certification.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Hospital experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as pushing, pulling, bending, and walking for most of the shift.
  • Ability to hear in a noisy environment.
  • Proficiency with computer use, reading screens, and distinguishing colors.
  • Routine lifting, pushing, and pulling objects over 50 pounds.
