Job summary

Arkansas Children's is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the Burn Center. This part-time role supports RN staff by providing basic care, taking vital signs, and assisting with ED/clinic visits, admissions, discharges, and transfers.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED, and about 1 year of related healthcare experience or coursework. CMA/CNA/RMA certifications are preferred. Salary starts at $15.00–$18.00 per hour, with safety-sensitive requirements.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Approximately 1 year of related healthcare experience or clinical coursework.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Completes patient care per licensed staff guidance.
  • Documents patient care and unit activities.
  • Assists with admission, transfer and discharge processes.
  • Communicates patient/family needs to health care teams.
  • Acts as courier between departments as needed.
  • Performs clerical duties and maintains supplies.
  • Ensures supplies and equipment are organized and stocked.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Information

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) functions as a nursing assistant in performing duties as assigned by the RN. The primary responsibilities of the PCT include:

  • obtaining vital signs and measurements
  • providing or assisting with basic care & activities of daily living
  • helping with ED/clinic visits, patient admissions, discharges & transfers
  • and assisting with customer service needs
Required Education

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Recommended Work Experience

Related Field - 1 year of experience, Technicians - 1 year of experience, AC employee with clinical experience or completion of a semester of healthcare curriculum.

Recommended Certifications

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - Arkansas Department of Long Term Care, Registered Medical Assistant - Unknown Issuer

Description
  • Completes patient care (may include V/S, I&O's, heights, weights, head circumference, ADL's and other patient care related assignments) in a safe, efficient and timely manner as delegated by licensed nursing staff.
  • Documents patient care and other assignments according to department guidelines.
  • Assists with admission, transfer and discharge as directed by licensed staff.
  • Communicates patient/family information, specific needs and requests to other health care team members to assist with individualizing the patient plan of care.
  • Acts as a courier between ancillary departments as needed to meet daily unit/department requirements.
  • Performs clerical duties such as serving as a receptionist, managing telephones, obtaining supplies and equipment, creating admission or informational packets, and other department specific duties as needed.
  • Ensures that patient supplies and equipment are organized, clean, and properly re-stocked for optimal cost effectiveness and availability for patient care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
