Job summary

UPMC is seeking a Patient Care Technician to support nursing staff in providing direct patient care and performing ADLs, vital signs, and basic therapies under RN supervision.

The role includes administering point of care testing, blood glucose, specimen collection, and contributing to patient safety and department operations across units.

Candidates must demonstrate professionalism, effective communication, and the ability to respond quickly to call lights while upholding safety standards.

Qualifications

• Provides patient care including assisting with patient procedures and activities of daily living.
• Assists with physical, respiratory and cardiopulmonary therapies.
• Performs UPMC nursing core nursing assistant responsibilities (blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections and Foley care) AND at least four of the following tasks: phlebotomy, 12 lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley catheter removal, point of care testing, bladder scan, straight catheter, or IV catheter removal.

Responsibilities

• Provides patient care including assisting with procedures and activities of daily living.
• Performs core nursing assistant duties and select advanced tasks as needed.
• Reports patient status changes to the RN and communicates with the health care team.
• Participates in universal unit activities such as responding to call lights and transporting patients.
• Maintains safety and ensures adherence to department policies and procedures.
• Documents in the medical record per established procedures and assists with clerical tasks.
