Job summary

University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN to support the PATH Clinic with clinical procedures, patient preparation, and charting. The role includes venipuncture, point-of-care testing, and maintaining exam rooms, with HIPAA compliance emphasized.

Qualifications

• CPR certification within 30 days of employment is required.
• Prior patient care tech and/or phlebotomy experience is strongly preferred.
• Ability to chart, take vitals, venipuncture, and basic office skills.
• Adherence to HIPAA regulations and SON/UAB policies is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical support in the PATH Clinic including taking histories and vital signs, venipuncture, preparing patients for exams, and assisting clinicians.
• Collect and prepare lab specimens and perform basic tests; dispose of contaminated materials.
• Maintain records for point of care devices and equipment in exam rooms.
• Arrange and prepare examining rooms' equipment and instruments for procedures.
• Perform medical charting, recordkeeping, typing, and other clerical tasks as needed.
• Update medical records, answer phones, schedule appointments, and fax records as directed.
• Ensure PATH Clinic compliance with UAB regulations, HIPAA, and privacy policies.
• Perform other duties to support the IPCP model at PATH Clinic.
• UAB requires ethical conduct; employees attest to the Enterprise Code of Conduct.
