Job summary

University of Alabama at Birmingham seeks a PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN to join the PATH Clinic on a day shift. You will support clinicians, perform venipuncture and point of care testing, and maintain patient records and exam room readiness.

You will handle charting, clerical tasks, scheduling, and ensure HIPAA compliance while working under supervision. Prior phlebotomy or patient care tech experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required, 2 years outpatient clinic preferred.
• CPR certification within 30 days of employment required.
• Prior patient care tech and/or phlebotomy experience preferred; familiarity with PC applications.
• Ability to chart, take vital signs, venipuncture, and follow HIPAA regulations.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical support to the PATH Clinic and Clinic Manager during exams and histories.
• Collect and prepare lab specimens, perform tests, dispose of contaminated supplies.
• Maintain records for point of care laboratory devices.
• Arrange and prepare exam rooms' equipment and instruments.
• Perform medical charting, recordkeeping, typing, and other clerical tasks.
• Update medical records, answer phones, schedule appointments, and fax records.
• Ensure PATH Clinic compliance with UAB regulations including HIPAA and privacy.
• Perform other duties to support the IPCP model at PATH Clinic.
• Adhere to UAB Code of Conduct; complete required online training.
