Job summary

Virtua Health seeks a Patient Care Technician to support daily living activities and care planning under RN/LPN supervision. You’ll collaborate with the healthcare team, patients, and families to uphold high standards of professional care.

Responsibilities include assisting with mobility, vital signs, and safety protocols, with opportunities to perform phlebotomy/EKGs where certified. Join a team dedicated to compassionate, quality care in a busy setting.

Qualifications

  • Must have strong communication skills.
  • Requires completion of a PCT course, RN fundamentals nursing course, CNA program, or equivalent of 1 year direct patient care.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Phlebotomy training/education required for Emergency Department positions.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with activities of daily living: bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, feeding, toileting/hygiene, mobility and transport.
  • Observes and applies Standard Precautions; cares for patients in isolation as needed.
  • Performs duties as directed by RN/LPN, including vital signs, point of care testing, bladder scanning, Foley catheter care.
  • May perform phlebotomy and EKGs if certified.
  • Escalates changes in patient status to RN/LPN and communicates with team.
  • Reinforces patient and family education on care needs and safety issues.
  • Participates in patient satisfaction initiatives and quality improvement activities.
  • Assists in orientation of new hires.

Communicates with and supports healthcare team, patients and/or patient’s family or significant other(s). Maintains and demonstrates high standards of professional ethics.

Position Responsibilities
  • Supports the activities of daily living to include bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, feeding, toileting/hygiene, and assisting with mobility and transport.
  • Demonstrates standard precautions including the care of patients in isolation and safe patient practice.
  • Performs technical duties as directed by RN/LPN, such as vital signs, point of care testing, bladder scanning, and foley catheter care specific to population served and documents appropriately.
  • May perform phlebotomy and EKG’s, if certified.
  • Identifies and communicates changes in patient’s status to RN/LPN and responds appropriately.
  • Demonstrates standard precautions including the care of patients in isolation and safe patient practice.
  • Reinforces education of patient and family/responsible party regarding individual care needs and safety issues.
  • Participates in Virtua patient satisfaction initiatives and goals.
  • Participates in the performance improvement activities.
  • Assists in orientation of new hires.
Position Qualifications Required / Experience Required
  • Demonstrates required knowledge of basic patient care skills, procedures and standards.
  • Must have strong communication skills.
  • Required Education: High School Diploma or Grade Equivalent Diploma (GED) required.
  • Must have successfully completed a PCT course, a fundamentals nursing course in an RN program, Certified Nursing Assistant programme, or have worked an equivalent of 1 year of direct patient care.
  • Training/Certifications/Licensure: BLS certification.
  • Phlebotomy training/education is required for the Emergency Department positions.
  • Enhances skills through ongoing education and training.
  • Maintains regulatory and departmental level competencies.

Hourly Rate: $19.54 – $29.20 The actual salary/rate will vary based on applicant’s experience as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
