Located in Baltimore’s cultural center near the historic Mount Vernon neighborhood, UMMC Midtown Campus is a 180-bed, community teaching hospital focusing on managing chronic diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, pulmonary conditions, and infectious diseases.

General Summary

The Patient Care Technician assists in delivering patient care under the direct clinical supervision of the Registered Nurse. Responsibilities include activities delegated by the RN, such as patient care, nutrition, direct observation, transportation, and documentation of activities, in accordance with the Maryland Board of Nursing-Nurse Practice Act.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Minimum of one year of recent, direct patient care experience preferred.
  • Current CPR certification required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to utilize universal safety precautions and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care suitable for the patient population(s) served, with understanding of growth and development principles over the lifespan, and ability to assess patient data relative to age-specific needs.
  • Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with patients, visitors, and healthcare team members, fostering optimal patient care.
