Located in Baltimore’s cultural center near the historic Mount Vernon neighborhood, UMMC Midtown Campus is a 180-bed, community teaching hospital focusing on helping people manage chronic diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, pulmonary conditions, and infectious diseases.

General Summary

The Patient Care Technician assists in the delivery of patient care under the direct clinical supervision of the Registered Nurse. Direct care activities are delegated by the Registered Nurse and are consistent with the Maryland Board of Nursing-Nurse Practice Act. Direct care includes activities involving patient care and nutrition, providing direct observation, transporting patients, and documenting these activities.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Minimum of one year of recent, direct patient care experience preferred.
  • Current CPR certification is required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to utilize universal safety precautions and act appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to their age and population-specific needs.
  • Highly effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills with patients, visitors, and healthcare team members to foster optimal patient care.
