General Summary

• Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and in accordance with the Nursing Care Plan, performs delegated competency-validated patient care functions and applies technical skills of a limited, uncomplicated nature. Fulfillment of the job duties requires access to medication storage areas.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED). State Nursing Assistant Certification required, along with completion of one of the following training programs: hospital-based program, community college, Emergency Medical Technician, Medical Corpsmen, or equivalent.
• Minimum of one year of recent, direct patient care experience in an acute care facility or equivalent.
• Current CPR certification is required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Ability to utilize universal safety precautions and act appropriately in emergency situations.
• Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate understanding of growth and development principles over the lifespan and assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs. Provides the care described in the unit/area/department policies and procedures.
• Highly effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills with patients, visitors, and other healthcare team members to establish working relationships that foster optimal patient care.
• Ensures patient safety in job performance and participates in hospital, department, or unit safety initiatives.
• Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety.
• Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management.
• Identifies potential risks in processes, procedures, devices, and communicates these to those in charge.
