- UT Health Tyler, the flagship hospital of the system, has 502 licensed beds specializing in advanced acute care medicine. Our hospital includes a 24-hour ER with Level 1 trauma center, a comprehensive stroke center, more than 500 physicians, and a full complement of subspecialty groups.
Learn About a Day in the Life of a PCT:
- Work under limited supervision of nursing and medical staff and with full proficiency to perform all duties, which include assisting patients with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, eating, and other ADLs.
- Observe patients’ progress to prepare and disseminate reports to Registered Nurse or other medical staff.
- Obtain and record patients' vital signs and collect specimens for lab tests.
- Provide basic patient transport and housekeeping duties.
- Measure and record patients' intake and output and other measurements in accordance with unit routines, assist patients with range of motion, and draw blood.
- Assist in providing treatments to patients, perform technical procedures such as feeding tube and catheter administration, suture/staple removal, splinting of extremities, and perform ECGs as ordered.
- Coordinate daily activities for the assigned unit, including general clerical and administrative support, and participate in performance improvement activities to maintain standards of performance.
Qualifications
Job Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- BLS certification required - must obtain within 30 days of hire or transfer into the position.
Preferred Job Requirements:
- 5 years' experience in acute or long-term care
- Completion of approved CNA or PCT certification, or being in the final semester of nursing school with less than one semester remaining.
- Must maintain active certification within the State of Texas.
