Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Technician for the 3 East IMC Unit in Virginia Beach, VA. Full-time nights (three 12-hour shifts, 7pm–7am) with every third weekend rotation.

The role involves direct patient care, vital signs, mobility, phlebotomy, EKG testing, specimen collection, and catheter care under RN supervision. Requires HS diploma and CNA/NCMA/NCPCT or related program; BLS within 90 days.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or equivalent required.
• CNA/NCMA/NCPCT or equivalent program completion preferred.
• Two or more of: phlebotomy, EKG, and point-of-care testing may be required.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and assist with activities of daily living.
• Monitor vital signs and document changes for RN review.
• Assist with mobility, transport, and ambulation.
• Perform phlebotomy and point-of-care testing.
• Collect specimens and assist with catheter care as directed.

As part of a Level III Trauma Center and a Magnet recognized hospital, our unit offers an exceptional environment for both experienced healthcare professionals and those at the start of their careers. Patient Care Technicians (PCT) can expect a ratio of 1:12, with all team members playing a pivotal, respected role in patient care. The unit is guided by an ACE award-winning leadership team, well known for fostering growth, teamwork, and professional development.The Patient Care Technician provides patient care, support independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse. Observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and document in a timely and accurate manner while reporting any change to the nurse or medical staff.Education:HS – High School Grad or EquivalentOne of the following programs: Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, or current student enrolled in a clinical program having completed at least one semester of a (RN, LPN, RT or PT) or current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.Certifications/Licensure:AHA BLS certification within 90 days of hire.Experience:One year of health care experience is preferred.None RequiredKeywords: Nursing Care Partner, NCP, CNA, Certified Nursing Assistant, PCT, Patient Care Tech, EMT, Nursing Student, Paramedic#Talroo-Allied HealthWe provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits.
